14th October 2023: 6th Edition of East Anglia Aikido Seminar

Saturday 14th October was a special day for Inori Dojo as we welcomed back Peter Brown Shihan, 7th Dan Aikido Aikikai, for another inspiring seminar. Having begun Aikido in 1966 at the age of nine, Shihan brings over 57 years of experience, passion, and insight to every session he leads.

This seminar centred on body movement—how to shape the body, move from the hips, and use posture, footwork, and timing to generate power. We explored variations of familiar techniques, learning how subtle changes in angle, speed, and connection can transform the outcome.

Throughout the day, we trained in both empty‑hand techniques and traditional weapons: bokken and jo. Because so much of Aikido is rooted in samurai weapons work, this combination allowed us to deepen our understanding of how body and weapon move as one.

We were delighted to welcome not only our own members but also aikidoists from Leicester, Derby, Cambridge, St Neots, Needham Market, and Barking. Thank you to everyone who attended and to all who helped behind the scenes—your support made the day run smoothly.

It was also the perfect chance to make full use of our 42‑mat training area, generously funded by Suffolk Community Foundation through the Suffolk Sports Fund.

If you’d like to experience Aikido for yourself, we run classes every Monday and Thursday from 7pm to 9pm at Woolpit Village Hall. Our instructors are fully qualified, DBS checked, First Aid trained, and fully vaccinated against COVID‑19.

Thursday nights, 7pm to 9pm. Our instructors are Coach Level 1 & 2 qualified, DBS checked, First Aid qualified and fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
